Merino wool - nature's own super material
The amazing properties of merino wool have been known for a long time and more and more people are discovering how good the wool is.
Merino wool is fine, soft and frizzy. The frizzy structure of the wool allows it to trap air and provide good thermal insulation. Simply put, it creates an air bubble between the skin and the garment, preventing heat from escaping.
The substance lanolin found in wool also makes moisture transport exceptional and keeps the skin dry. Wool also absorbs moisture up to 30% of its own weight and this is what makes merino wool warm even when it is damp, unlike other textiles.
Wool is naturally temperature-regulating. It does this by absorbing and evaporating moisture. If it gets too hot, it cools itself down through evaporation, much like the body does. Wool therefore works both in summer and winter and helps you maintain the right temperature.
Perhaps the greatest advantage of merino wool in workout clothes is its amazing ability to stay odor-free. It is the keratin in the wool fibers that breaks down odor-causing bacteria and keeps the garment odor-free for longer.
You don’t need to wash a merino garment as often as other garments, the wool has a self-cleaning property and you can easily freshen up your garment by hanging it out to air between uses. When washing is necessary, we recommend that you wash it in a 40 degree gentle cycle. For an extra long lifespan of your garment, you can wash it in a wool program.
Because merino wool is so fine and thin, the garments are soft and comfortable and do not itch against the body. Merino wool’s curly and soft long fibers are measured in micron counts that can vary between 17-23. Lower micron counts mean thinner fibers. Our merino wool has a micron count of 19.5, which makes it feel warm, soft and supple against the skin. If you are sensitive to the chaff of wool, you should opt for garments with a lower micron count, which is why our merino garments are suitable for most users and occasions. For the underwear, we have chosen an even lower micron count, namely 17.5, to give an extra soft feel.
